Hypnotherapy for Stress

What if you could stop feeling as though you’re constantly running on empty?

Life can be busy, demanding and sometimes overwhelming. A certain amount of stress is completely normal, but when your mind and body rarely seem to switch off, it can begin to affect almost every part of your life.

Perhaps you’re constantly thinking about what needs doing next. You finish one thing and immediately move onto another. Even when you finally sit down, your mind is still racing.

You might feel tense, irritable or exhausted. Your sleep may suffer. Small things can suddenly feel much bigger than they normally would, and you may find yourself reacting in ways that simply don’t feel like you.

Sometimes people become so accustomed to living in this state that being stressed starts to feel normal.

But constantly operating in survival mode doesn’t have to become your normal way of living.

Hypnotherapy for stress can help you slow down those automatic responses, develop healthier ways of dealing with pressure and begin feeling calmer and more in control.

At Soul Solutions Hypnotherapy in Leicestershire, we’ll look at what’s creating stress in your life and help you develop a different way of responding to it.

Does Stress Feel Like This?

Stress doesn’t always look like someone obviously struggling. You can be getting everything done, looking after everyone else and appearing perfectly capable on the outside — while feeling completely overwhelmed inside.

You might recognise:

✓ Your mind rarely switches off
✓ Constantly thinking about what needs doing next
✓ Feeling overwhelmed by your responsibilities
✓ Being more irritable or short-tempered than usual
✓ Finding it difficult to relax without feeling guilty
✓ Trouble sleeping because your mind is still busy
✓ Tension in your shoulders, jaw or body
✓ Feeling exhausted but somehow still unable to stop
✓ Overthinking conversations and situations
✓ Struggling to concentrate or make decisions
✓ Feeling that everyone wants something from you
✓ Putting everybody else’s needs before your own
✓ Feeling as though there simply aren’t enough hours in the day
✓ Knowing you need to slow down but not knowing how

And sometimes there isn’t one enormous problem.

It can simply be too many little things, for too long, without enough opportunity to reset.

Why Can Stress Become a Cycle?

Your stress response is there for a reason. When your brain believes something requires your attention, your body prepares you to respond.

That’s incredibly useful when there’s a genuine threat or an immediate problem to deal with.

The difficulty comes when your system doesn’t seem to get the message that it’s safe to switch off again.

Work pressures, family responsibilities, finances, relationships, deadlines, caring for other people and constantly being available through phones and technology can mean there’s always something else demanding your attention.

Your mind may start anticipating problems before they’ve even happened.

What if I don’t get everything done?
What if something goes wrong?
What have I forgotten?
What do I need to do tomorrow?

And even when nothing is actually happening, your mind can continue behaving as though something needs dealing with.

You may then sleep badly, feel more tired, have less patience and find everyday situations harder to manage. That creates even more stress, and the cycle continues.

Sometimes people even become uncomfortable when they do stop.

You finally sit down and immediately think:

“I should be doing something.”

Learning to relax isn’t about becoming lazy or no longer caring about your responsibilities.

It’s about helping your mind and body recognise that you don’t need to be on high alert all of the time.

How Can Hypnotherapy Help with Stress?

Hypnotherapy gives us an opportunity to work with some of the automatic patterns that may be keeping your stress response switched on.

Rather than simply telling you to relax — which you’ve probably already tried! — we can work on changing the way you respond to pressure in the first place.

Depending on what’s happening for you, our sessions might focus on:

✓ Calming a constantly busy mind
✓ Reducing overthinking and excessive worrying
✓ Feeling more able to switch off from work
✓ Letting go of unnecessary pressure and perfectionism
✓ Becoming more comfortable saying no
✓ Setting healthier boundaries
✓ Responding more calmly when things don’t go to plan
✓ Improving confidence in dealing with difficult situations
✓ Releasing physical tension
✓ Improving your ability to relax without feeling guilty
✓ Developing healthier ways of coping with pressure
✓ Creating a greater sense of balance and control

Hypnosis itself can also provide something many stressed people haven’t experienced properly for quite some time:

Permission to stop.

To sit or lie comfortably, close your eyes and allow somebody else to guide you while your mind and body begin to slow down.

But the real goal isn’t simply for you to feel relaxed during the session.

It’s for those changes to begin following you into everyday life — when the emails arrive, when plans change, when somebody wants something from you, or when life simply gets busy.

You can’t always control what happens around you. But you can change the way your mind and body respond to it.

What Could Life Feel Like With Less Stress?

Imagine waking up and not immediately running through everything you need to do.

You still have responsibilities. Life is still busy. Things don’t magically stop happening around you — but somehow, you’re responding differently.

You deal with one thing at a time rather than feeling overwhelmed by everything at once.

When something doesn’t go to plan, you handle it without your mind immediately jumping ten steps ahead.

Perhaps you start noticing that you’re more patient with the people around you. You’re able to finish work and actually leave work at work. When you’re spending time with family or friends, you’re really there rather than mentally working through tomorrow’s list.

And when you finally get some time for yourself, you can enjoy it.

Without the guilt. Without thinking you should be doing something else.

You may begin sleeping more peacefully, feeling less tension in your body and waking with more energy.

The pressures in your life might not have disappeared.

What’s changed is the way you’re responding to them.

You begin to feel as though you’re managing your life again, rather than your life constantly managing you.

More calm.
More balance.
More breathing space.
More of you.

Ready to Take Some of the Pressure Off?

If you’ve been telling yourself “I’ll feel better when things calm down”, perhaps you don’t have to wait for everything around you to change first.

We can start by helping you respond differently to what’s happening around you.

What Happens During a Hypnotherapy Session for Stress?

Your first appointment gives us time to understand what’s creating pressure in your life, how you’re currently responding to it and what you would like to feel instead.

For one person, stress might be mostly connected to work. For somebody else, it could involve relationships, caring responsibilities, finances, confidence, difficulty saying no or simply trying to juggle too many things at once.

That’s why your sessions are tailored specifically to you.

I’ll explain how hypnotherapy works and answer any questions before we begin.

During hypnosis, you’ll be guided into a comfortable, focused state where your mind and body have an opportunity to slow down. You’ll still be aware of where you are, you’ll be able to hear my voice and you remain in control throughout.

We’ll then work with the particular thoughts, beliefs and automatic responses that are relevant to you.

And importantly, we’ll focus on taking those changes back into real life — helping you respond differently the next time you’re faced with a deadline, a difficult conversation, a busy day or something that doesn’t go according to plan.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnotherapy for Stress

Can hypnotherapy help with stress?

Hypnotherapy can help you work with some of the thoughts, habits and automatic responses that may be contributing to stress.

Often, it isn’t possible to remove every pressure from your life. You may still have a demanding job, family responsibilities, deadlines or other things that need your attention.

Instead, we can work on changing the way you respond to those pressures.

That might include reducing overthinking, feeling calmer when things don’t go to plan, setting healthier boundaries, becoming more comfortable saying no or learning how to properly switch off and relax.

The aim isn’t to create a life with no stress at all. It’s to help you feel better equipped to handle the life you have.

Can hypnotherapy help me switch off from work?

Yes, this is something we can work on.

You may physically leave work at the end of the day but find that mentally you’re still there — thinking about emails, conversations, deadlines or what needs doing tomorrow.

Hypnotherapy can help us work with that habit of remaining mentally “on duty” long after the working day has finished.

We can also work on boundaries, perfectionism, responsibility and the feeling that you always need to be doing something.

The goal is to help you leave work at work so that your time away from it actually feels like your own.

Can hypnotherapy help with stress-related sleep problems?

Stress and sleep can sometimes create a frustrating cycle.

Your mind is busy, so you struggle to switch off at night. Then you don’t sleep well, which can leave you feeling more tired, emotional or overwhelmed the following day.

Hypnotherapy may help you develop a calmer bedtime response, reduce some of the repetitive thinking that keeps your mind active and help your body recognise that it’s safe to switch off and rest.

If you’re experiencing persistent or unexplained sleep problems, however, it’s sensible to discuss these with your GP or healthcare professional too.

What if the things causing my stress can’t be changed?

This is actually very common.

We can’t always change our job immediately, remove family responsibilities, control other people’s behaviour or prevent unexpected things from happening.

But there is an important difference between what happens around you and how your mind responds to it.

Our work can focus on the areas where you do have influence — your thoughts, boundaries, reactions, coping strategies and the amount of pressure you place upon yourself.

Sometimes changing your response can make a situation feel very different, even when the situation itself hasn’t changed.

What if I find it really difficult to relax?

Then you’re exactly the sort of person who may appreciate experiencing hypnosis!

You don’t need to be good at relaxing before you come.

In fact, many people seeking help with stress tell me that even when they try to relax, their mind immediately starts thinking about everything else they should be doing.

I’ll guide you through the process. You don’t need to completely clear your mind or force yourself into relaxation.

There is nothing you have to get right.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. You remain in control throughout.

You’ll usually still be aware of where you are and able to hear my voice. If you wanted to move, speak or open your eyes, you could.

Hypnosis isn’t mind control, and you can’t be made to do something against your wishes.

For many people who spend most of their lives thinking, planning and taking responsibility for everything, simply allowing themselves to be guided for a while can actually feel incredibly refreshing.

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need for stress?

There isn’t one number that’s right for everybody.

It depends on what’s contributing to your stress, how long you’ve been experiencing it and what you’d like to change.

We’ll discuss this together and review your progress as we go.

My aim is to help you develop changes that continue outside the therapy room, so that you become increasingly confident managing pressure for yourself.

Can I have hypnotherapy for stress online?

Yes. I offer both face-to-face hypnotherapy in Leicestershire and online sessions.

Online hypnotherapy can be particularly convenient if you have a busy schedule, work long hours or simply prefer being in your own surroundings.

You’ll need somewhere comfortable and private where you won’t be disturbed and a reliable internet connection.

Ready to Feel Different?

If you’ve become so used to being busy, overwhelmed or constantly “on” that you’ve forgotten what properly switching off feels like, perhaps it’s time to give yourself some breathing space.

You don’t need everything around you to become calmer before you can begin feeling calmer within yourself.

We can start with a conversation about what’s creating pressure in your life and how you would like things to feel instead.

Sometimes you don’t need to do more.

You need to learn how to carry less.
