Hypnotherapy for Anxiety

Imagine what life could feel like if anxiety wasn’t making so many of your decisions for you.

Perhaps your mind is constantly busy. You overthink conversations, worry about things that haven’t happened yet or find yourself running through endless “what ifs?”

Maybe anxiety stops you going places, doing things you would like to do or simply enjoying the moment you’re in. Even when part of you knows there’s nothing to worry about, another part of you just doesn’t seem to believe it.

Anxiety can be exhausting. However, you don’t have to accept that this is simply how you are.

Hypnotherapy for anxiety can help you begin changing the thoughts, feelings and automatic responses that have been keeping that anxious cycle going.

At Soul Solutions Hypnotherapy in Leicestershire, I work with you as an individual. Rather than simply helping you cope with anxious feelings, we’ll explore what’s driving them and work towards helping you feel calmer, safer, more confident and more in control.

Does Anxiety Feel Like This?

Anxiety doesn’t look the same for everyone. For some people it’s very physical; for others it’s the constant thinking that becomes exhausting.

You might recognise:

✓ Constant overthinking and “what if?” thoughts
✓ Worrying about things that haven’t happened
✓ Replaying conversations in your head
✓ Feeling tense, on edge or unable to switch off
✓ A racing heart, butterflies or a knot in your stomach
✓ Feeling panicky in particular situations
✓ Avoiding places, people or experiences
✓ Needing reassurance from other people
✓ Difficulty sleeping because your mind won’t settle
✓ Feeling as though something bad is going to happen
✓ Losing confidence in yourself
✓ Anxiety seemingly appearing for no obvious reason

Sometimes you know exactly where your anxiety began. At other times, you may have absolutely no idea.

Either is okay. You don’t have to understand everything about your anxiety before you can begin changing it.

Why Does Anxiety Keep Happening When I Know I’m Safe?

One of the most frustrating things about anxiety is knowing logically that you’re probably okay while still feeling anxious.

You can tell yourself, “There’s nothing to worry about.” You can have other people reassure you. You can even know that you’ve been in the same situation many times before and everything was fine.

Yet your body can still react as though there’s a threat.

That’s because anxious responses can become automatic. Your brain and body can learn to associate particular thoughts, situations or sensations with danger and begin responding before you’ve had time to rationalise what is happening.

This can create a cycle:

Thought → Fear → Physical Sensation → More Worry → More Fear

Over time, you may even start worrying about the anxiety itself.

Hypnotherapy gives us an opportunity to work with those automatic patterns rather than relying entirely on willpower or repeatedly telling yourself to “stop worrying.”

How Can Hypnotherapy Help with Anxiety?

Hypnotherapy is a deeply relaxed and focused state in which we can begin working with the thoughts, beliefs, memories and associations connected with your anxiety.

Our sessions are tailored to you because there isn’t one single cause of anxiety.

Depending on what you need, our work may focus on calming automatic responses, reducing the emotional impact of past experiences, changing unhelpful thought patterns, building confidence and helping your mind create different expectations for future situations.

I may also draw upon other therapeutic techniques I’m trained in where appropriate, rather than assuming one technique is right for everybody.

Most importantly, you remain aware and in control throughout hypnotherapy. You cannot be made to reveal anything you don’t want to discuss or do anything against your wishes.

What Could Life Without So Much Anxiety Feel Like?

Imagine noticing that you’re no longer thinking about something that used to consume your thoughts.

Imagine going somewhere without mentally rehearsing everything that could go wrong.

Or waking in the morning and simply getting on with your day instead of immediately checking how anxious you feel.

Change can sometimes show up in surprisingly ordinary moments — driving somewhere, walking into a shop, meeting friends, speaking to someone, going to work or simply sitting quietly at home and realising:

“I didn’t even think about it.”

That’s the kind of change we’re working towards — not spending your life constantly managing anxiety, but helping you become less controlled by it.

Anxiety Can Affect Many Areas of Life

Social Anxiety

Feeling judged, worrying about what people think, replaying conversations or avoiding social situations.

Panic & Fear of Panic

Becoming frightened of physical sensations or worrying that you’ll panic somewhere you can’t easily leave.

Health Anxiety

Constantly checking symptoms, seeking reassurance or fearing that a physical sensation means something is seriously wrong.

Overthinking

Going over conversations, decisions and future possibilities repeatedly without ever feeling you’ve reached an answer.

Anxiety Around Driving, Travel or Leaving Home

Feeling anxious about driving, motorways, public transport, unfamiliar places or being away from somewhere that feels safe.

Work & Performance Anxiety

Worrying about meetings, presentations, making mistakes, being judged or not being good enough.

What Happens During an Anxiety Hypnotherapy Session?

We start by talking.

I want to understand your anxiety, what happens, when it happens and, most importantly, how you’d like to feel instead.

There is no judgement and you won’t be expected to tell me anything you’re uncomfortable discussing.

When we use hypnosis, you’ll be guided into a comfortable, relaxed state. Most people can still hear what’s happening around them and know exactly where they are.

From there, we’ll work towards changing the patterns that are relevant to you.

Every session is individual because every person’s anxiety is individual.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnotherapy for Anxiety

Can hypnotherapy help with anxiety?

Hypnotherapy can be a helpful approach for people experiencing anxiety. Rather than simply telling yourself to stop worrying or trying to think more positively, hypnotherapy can help you explore and change some of the automatic thoughts, feelings and responses that may be contributing to the anxious cycle.

Every person’s anxiety is different, so I tailor our sessions to you, your experiences and what you would like to change. The aim is to help you feel calmer, more confident and more in control, rather than allowing anxiety to make decisions for you.

Can hypnotherapy help with overthinking?

Yes, overthinking is something I regularly work with. You might replay conversations, analyse situations repeatedly, worry about what could happen or find that your mind simply refuses to switch off.

During hypnotherapy, we can work on helping your mind respond differently to those thoughts. The goal isn’t to stop you thinking — we all need to think! Instead, it’s about helping you recognise which thoughts deserve your attention and allowing the unnecessary ones to pass without becoming caught up in them.

Over time, many people find they can step away from that constant analysing and feel much more present in everyday life.

What if I don’t know what caused my anxiety?

That’s absolutely fine. You do not need to know where your anxiety came from before coming for hypnotherapy.

Some people can pinpoint a particular experience or period in their life when their anxiety began. Others have felt anxious for so long that they can’t remember when it started. Sometimes there appears to be no obvious reason at all.

We work with what you’re experiencing now and what you would like to feel instead. If something relevant emerges during our work together, we can deal with it appropriately, but you don’t need to arrive with all the answers.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. Hypnosis isn’t mind control and you don’t become unconscious.

Most people describe hypnosis as a deeply relaxed, focused state. You’ll usually be able to hear my voice, know where you are and remember the session afterwards.

You remain in control throughout. You can’t be forced to say or do something against your wishes, and if you needed to open your eyes, move, speak or end the hypnosis at any point, you could.

In fact, you may be surprised by just how ordinary hypnosis feels.

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need for anxiety?

There isn’t one answer because everyone is different. Your anxiety, experiences, circumstances and goals are unique to you.

Some people notice positive changes quite quickly, while others benefit from working together for longer, particularly when anxiety has been present for many years or is connected with several different issues.

We’ll discuss this together and review your progress as we go. I don’t believe in keeping someone in therapy unnecessarily — the aim is to help you make the changes you came for and feel able to move forward.

Can I have hypnotherapy for anxiety online?

Yes. Hypnotherapy can also be carried out online, allowing you to have your sessions from the comfort of your own home.

For some people with anxiety, this can actually make taking that first step feel easier because there’s no travelling or unfamiliar environment to worry about.

You’ll need somewhere comfortable and private where you won’t be disturbed, together with a reliable internet connection. I’ll explain everything you need before your first online session.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your first appointment gives us time to talk about what’s been happening, how anxiety is affecting you and, importantly, how you would like things to be different.

I’ll explain how I work and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions. There’s no judgement and you won’t be expected to discuss anything you don’t feel comfortable sharing.

Your sessions are tailored specifically to you rather than following a one-size-fits-all script or programme.

What if I can’t relax or I’m not good at hypnosis?

You don’t need to be good at hypnosis, and you certainly don’t need to arrive knowing how to meditate or completely clear your mind.

In fact, people with very busy minds often assume they won’t be able to experience hypnosis because they find it difficult to switch off. Having thoughts doesn’t mean hypnosis isn’t working.

I’ll guide you throughout the process. There’s no particular feeling you’re trying to achieve and no test to pass. You can simply allow yourself to experience it in whatever way feels natural to you.

Can hypnotherapy help with panic attacks?

Hypnotherapy may be used as part of an approach to help someone change the fear, thoughts and automatic responses associated with panic.

For some people, the fear of having another panic attack becomes part of the problem itself. They begin watching for sensations in their body, avoiding certain places or worrying about what would happen if they panicked somewhere they couldn’t easily leave.

Our work can focus on helping you feel safer and calmer around those sensations and situations, while changing some of the patterns that may be keeping the cycle going.
